An orthophoto, orthophoto image, or orthophotograph is an aerial photograph that has been geometrically corrected (“orthorectification”) so that the scale is constant and stable: the photograph has the lack of distortion same as the map does. Unlike incorrect aerial photography, orthophotograph can be used to measure true distances because they are an accurate representation of the Earth’s surface, adjusted for topographic relief, lens distortion, and camera tilt. Orthophotography is usually used to create geographic information systems (GIS). The software can display orthophotos and allow operators to digitize or place linework, text annotations, or geographic symbols (such as schools, hospitals and fire stations). Some software programs can automatically process orthophotos and generate line work.
