LiDAR is a surveying method that measures the distance to a target by a laser light at it and measuring the reflected light with a sensor. The difference in laser return time and wavelength can be used to create a 3D digital representation of the target.
LiDAR is commonly used to create high-resolution maps, in surveying, archaeology, geography, geology, geomorphology, seismology, forestry, atmospheric physics, laser guidance, airborne laser mapping (ALSM), and laser metrology as well as with application in geomatics. The technology is also used for control and navigation.
